Network Devices 網絡設備

• Network Interface Card 網絡界面卡 (NIC)
– For connecting a computer to a network 用於將電腦連接一個網絡
– Manage data sent and received through a medium 管理經由媒介傳送和接收的數據
– Used to be an expansion card, but now it’s commonly built into the motherboard. 以往是一張擴展卡，但是現在大多整合至主機板中
– Provides connections for STP/UTP cables, Fibre Optics, and WiFi. 提供連接 STP / UTP 電纜、光纖及 WiFi 的方法
– Provides a 48-bit Media Access Control (MAC) address which serves as a unique identifier 提供一個 48 位元的媒介接達控制(MAC)位址作獨特識別用途

Transmission Media 傳輸媒體

• Shielded Twisted-Pair (STP) & Unshielded Twisted-Pair (UTP) Cable 屏蔽雙扭線(STP)及無屏蔽雙扭線(UTP)電纜
– There are different versions of UTP cables (e.g. Cat 3, Cat 5, Cat 6). The most commonly used version is Cat 5 and Cat 5e. UTP 電纜有不同版本 (例如 Cat 3、Cat 5 及 Cat 6)。現時最常用的版本是 Cat 5 及 Cat 5e。
– The transmission speed of Cat 5 cable is up to 100 Mbps while that of Cat 5e is up to 1000Mbps. Cat 5 電纜的傳輸速度高達 100 Mbps，而 Cat 5e 電纜則達 1000 Mbps。
– STP cables have noise reduction; UTP cables are less expensive. STP 電纜能減少噪音;UTP 電纜則價格相宜。
– UTP cables are commonly used in connecting a LAN. UTP 電纜常用於連接 LAN。
– RJ-45 Connectors on both ends. 電纜兩端均接有 RJ-45 接口。
